Behrens was the general manager for the U.S. Education business at Microsoft Corp. Behrens was responsible for supporting K–12 and higher education groups across the United States. He also oversaw Microsoft’s U.S. Partners in Learning program. Behrens brought a wide range of experience to the position, including sales leadership, solutions and product development and design, partner recruitment, and a keen understanding of government and education institutional needs.
Behrens had a distinguished career providing management expertise and leadership. He is known for his ability to bring solutions to market quickly based on customer needs and demand. One example is Microsoft’s Public Sector On-Demand powered by Microsoft Dynamics CRM, which includes the Web-based Backpack 2008 Student Information System — designed for U.S. government and education organizations seeking an alternative to traditional on-premises applications.
Behrens led the U.S. Public Sector Dynamics team, where he was responsible for all Dynamics CRM product business in the federal government, state and local government, and education markets, including K–12 and higher education. He has worked with a number of federal customers over the years, specifically the Department of Transportation, and as the leader of the Air Force business, which he grew to new heights, including the winning of one of the largest software and services deals in Microsoft history.
Behrens holds a bachelor’s degree in international politics from the Pennsylvania State University. He resides in the Washington, D.C., area with his wife and children.
