The Urban League of St. Louis recently renewed their partnership with the Starbucks Community Store in Ferguson, MO to provide practical Job Readiness and Customer Service for youth and young adults in our community! Jennings Senior High School partnered with them to train our JAG students as part of the JAG program.  In November 2018, twenty Jennings Senior High School JAG students graduated from Starbucks Barista Training.  Students were selected based on attendance, GPA and JAG class participation. JAG Specialist, Dr. Theresa L. Badgett transported JAG students to the Starbucks community store during their respective JAG class period every day for four weeks.

The Urban League, Starbucks and JAG parallels in its commitment to creating pathways to opportunities and employment for young people in underserved communities in its comprehensive approach to help students obtain skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing global workforce.

The twenty JAG students who participated in this program received hands-on training in interviewing skills, teamwork, understanding different customers, cash handling, online applications/assessments, telephone etiquette, personal/company image, handling difficult customers, and how to prepare Starbucks beverages – taught by a professional Starbucks Barista!
