The I&I Ceremony: A Catalyst for Leadership in JAG Nation
Every year, thousands of young people across the nation gather for the Initiation and Installation Ceremony (I&I), an event that marks a significant milestone in their journey through the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program. More than just a ceremony, the I&I is a celebration of leadership, commitment, and the values that define JAG.
Planned and executed by students, the I&I ceremony is a showcase of their organizational skills, responsibility, and teamwork. From menu planning to the guest list, students take charge of every detail, ensuring that the event reflects their unique personalities and the spirit of JAG.
During the ceremony, students reaffirm their commitment to JAG’s Four Career Association Goals: Leadership and Development, Career Preparation, Civic Awareness, and Social Awareness. These goals guide their activities throughout the year, fostering personal and professional growth.
A highlight of the I&I is the induction of new officers, followed by the recitation of the JAG Career Association Creed. Through this oath, students pledge their dedication to developing the skills and knowledge necessary for success. The creed underscores the importance of individual growth, teamwork, and community involvement.
The Four Goals of the JAG Career Association
- Leadership and Development: JAG fosters leadership by providing opportunities for students to take on roles of responsibility, participate in leadership training, and engage with community leaders.
- Career Preparation: JAG equips students with tools to explore career options, develop pre-employability skills, and gain a head start in their professional journeys.
- Social Awareness: Through various activities, JAG students develop a deeper understanding of professional etiquette, teamwork, and the importance of community.
- Civic Awareness: JAGCA members recognize the importance of giving back and work closely with local and state governments on civic development projects.
The I&I Ceremony is not just a one-time event but a significant milestone in a young person’s journey through JAG. It sets the tone for the year ahead, inspiring students to take ownership of their roles as members and leaders of the JAG Career Association. Whether they are learning to manage time, communicate effectively, or collaborate with others, students leave with experiences that shape their futures.
For many students, the I&I Ceremony is a moment of realization—a time when they begin to see themselves as capable, motivated, and ready to take on the challenges of leadership and personal development. It is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth, celebrate their achievements, and take their place as active contributors to JAG’s mission of preparing young people for successful careers and lives.
Across JAG Nation, the I&I Ceremony is a symbol of the values, aspirations, and potential of every student. As they recite the JAG Career Association Creed and take on their new responsibilities, these students are not only pledging to JAG—they are pledging to their futures, setting the stage for a lifetime of growth and success.
