As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the significant contributions of Hispanic Americans to our nation’s history, culture, and accomplishments. JAG proudly recognizes Alondra Aguilera, the 2024-25 JAG Career Association (JAGCA) national secretary. A freshman at the University of New Mexico and 2024 Rio Grande High School graduate, Alondra embodies resilience, leadership, and the spirit of service integral to the JAG mission.

“I see this month as an opportunity to celebrate those who came before us and did the hard work so we can comfortably be who we want to be and feel proud to say we are Hispanic. – Alondra Aguilera

For Alondra, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time of deep personal reflection. Growing up in a family where she witnessed the tireless efforts of her parents, Alondra holds this month close to her heart, acknowledging the challenges and triumphs of previous generations. “Of course, there is still a lot of work left to do, but thanks to them, it is much easier.”

Alondra draws her strength and inspiration from her mother, who immigrated to the U.S. with limited resources and without knowing English.

Her mother’s determination to raise three children while pursuing higher education and ultimately securing her dream job as a daycare director continues to fuel Alondra’s drive. “She’s a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that anything is possible, no matter your circumstances,” Alondra says, admiring her mother’s resilience.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, join us in celebrating Alondra and all Hispanic students and families who contribute to the diversity, strength, and future of JAG and our nation.

Cultural Influence on Leadership and Service

As a first-generation high school graduate, Alondra’s Mexican heritage is a cornerstone of her leadership style. “I’ve tried my best to inspire others with my story,” she says. Growing up, Alondra believed that her background as the child of immigrants would limit her career opportunities. However, through JAG, she realized that her story of determination is a powerful tool for inspiring others, especially students who may feel the same.

JAG has been a transformative force in Alondra’s life. “JAG has taught me that anything is possible with hard work and dedication,” she affirms. The program has opened the doors to a university education and helped her build valuable connections to ensure future success.

Inspiring Future Generations

As the National Secretary of the JAG Career Association, Alondra is determined to be a role model for other Hispanic students in JAG and beyond. “I hope to lead by example and show them que si se puede,” she shares passionately. Through her story and commitment, Alondra aims to inspire students to follow their dreams and pursue what makes their hearts sing.
