INDIANAPOLIS (March 14, 2018) — Gov. Eric J. Holcomb will join Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Commissioner Fred Payne at the 10th annual Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Indiana Career Development Conference at Ivy Tech Community College Corporate College and Culinary Center on Friday, March 16, 2018. Gov. Holcomb will honor select JAG Indiana students recommended by a panel of judges from competitions held earlier that day.
In January, Gov. Holcomb was elected to serve as the chairman of the national JAG Board of Directors — a bipartisan group that includes governors from 12 other states. JAG is a state-based, national non-profit organization dedicated to helping students overcome challenges to graduate high school and gain useful skills to secure good jobs. JAG has served more than 1.2 million youth around the country.

Media should enter on the south side of Corporate College and Culinary Center and check in at the registration table. Members of the media are invited to join conference attendees for lunch.
BACKGROUND:The career development conference provides JAG Indiana students an opportunity to learn from their peers and meet industry professionals. The conference also serves as the culmination of months of regional competitions, which focused on disciplines critical to employment. The top students in each category from the regional competitions advanced to Indianapolis for a chance to earn monetary awards and meet Gov. Holcomb. Competition categories include: career presentation, cover design, creative solutions, critical thinking, employability skills, entrepreneurship plan, public speaking, writing skills and the outstanding senior award.
Gov. Holcomb serves as the 2018 chair of JAG’s national board of directors. JAG is a state-based, national non-profit organization that assists students with barriers to success by helping them overcome academic challenges and achieve graduation. Students learn up to 88 competencies such as critical thinking, team leadership and effective communications skills to increase employability.
