As the new school year begins, students across the nation are stepping into classrooms ready to embark on their journey with Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG). This is not just any class; it’s the start of a transformative experience that will shape their futures. Through the JAG Career Association (JAGCA), students gain hands-on experience in leadership, public speaking, project management and more. These activities are designed to empower students, helping them make a positive difference in their communities and prepare for future success.

From day one, JAG students notice something different about their classrooms. These spaces are designed to encourage connection and teamwork, and provide a supportive environment where students can share openly with their peers and their JAG Specialist. The JAG Specialist, a dedicated educator, focuses on a core group of students, ensuring they graduate on-time and are well-prepared for post-secondary education and careers.

In the first few weeks, students begin electing their JAGCA officers and committee chairs. They also start building their Program of Work (POW), a student-led plan that includes activities focused on leadership development, career readiness, civic engagement, community service, and social service. These activities help students take ownership of their education while contributing positively to their schools and communities.

Increasing Student Engagement

One of the benefits of the JAG Program of Work activities is the notable increase in student engagement. By actively participating in planning and executing these activities, students become deeply invested in their own education.

This increased engagement shows in improved attendance rates. When students feel that their contributions matter and that they are part of something meaningful, they are more likely to attend school regularly. The sense of purpose instilled by the Program of Work activities encourages students to be present, thus reducing absenteeism.

Boosting GPA Rates

Another impressive outcome of JAGCA’s student-led activities is the increase in GPA rates. As students feel connected to their school and community they are more likely to invest time and effort in their studies. As a result, they not only attend school more regularly but also apply themselves more to their academic pursuits, leading to higher GPAs.

Raising Graduation Rates

The most significant impact of the JAGCA Program of Work activities is the increased graduation rates among program participants. The combination of heightened student engagement and improved academic performance sets the stage for more students to successfully complete their high school education.

Students who actively participate in leadership development and career readiness activities are better prepared to make informed decisions about their future. They are equipped with the skills necessary to navigate post-secondary education or enter the workforce confidently. This translates into higher graduation rates, as more students graduate with a clear vision of their path forward.

As we kick off another school year, we wish all our JAG students a successful and exciting journey! We look forward to seeing the incredible achievements and positive changes they will bring to their schools and communities. Help us empower the next generation of leaders, click here to learn more.
