SHEBORO — Communities In Schools’ “Jobs for North Carolina’s Graduates” program now has a new site at Asheboro High School, thanks to generous support from Toyota.

State Sen. Amy Galey, R-Alamance, whose district includes part of Randolph County, representatives from Toyota and community leaders joined the organization for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 17 at Asheboro High School. Students in the Jobs for North Carolina’s Graduates program shared how the program was shaping their skills and plans for the future.

The JNCG program works with employers to expose students to careers in their community and across the state. Each student works to master 37 crucial durable skills and workplace competencies like interview skills, workplace communications, teamwork, leadership, conflict resolution and problem solving with the goal of reaching the graduation stage with a plan for the future.

JNCG is an evidence-based program that improves outcomes for high school students who experience barriers to success. The most recent data shows:

  • 98% of JNCG students graduated high school.
  • 90% were employed, in school or enlisted in military service after graduation.

Other program partners include NCWorks, N.C. Department of Commerce, N.C. Job Ready, Duke Energy, AT&T, Honeywell, GE Aviation and businesses across North Carolina’s eight prosperity zones.
