CARSON CITY — A program designed to help at-risk students stay in school and become successful after graduation has received a $1.25 million grant that will allow its expansion into more Las Vegas area schools.

An organization called USA Funds awarded the grant to the Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates program established by Gov. Brian Sandoval in 2012. The program serves 21 schools in eight counties and has a goal of expanding to 50 schools across the state.

The grant was announced Friday at the inaugural meeting of the program’s board of directors. The program involves providing students with a comprehensive set of services to help them graduate and then pursue higher education or employment.

USA Funds is a nonprofit corporation that supports Completion With a Purpose, building a more purposeful path for America’s students to and through college and onto rewarding careers and successful lives.

“I am thrilled to see Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates continue to expand and positively impact schools across Nevada,” Sandoval said. “JAGNV provides new opportunities to some of our most at-risk students and helps them identify new goals and opportunities for success.”

USA Funds President and CEO William Hansen said the organization is proud to partner with and support the program.

“This program has a proven track record of increasing graduation rates and motivating students to create a pathway to success after graduation,” he said.

Frank Woodbeck, chairman of the program’s board, thanked USA Funds for the grant.

“This program has already seen measurable success across Nevada and this additional funding will guarantee more lives will be changed through this program,” he said.
